Planning Your Move

You have decided to move to a new place like Oakville, you are both excited and scared. We all know that moving can be a headache. So, here are a few ideas and tips to make your move go a bit easier.

  1. Your first step to a successful move is organization. Be sure to plan the details weeks ahead of time, avoiding headaches later on. You must figure out what you will be taking and what you will put into storage at this point. Now is a good time to get rid of all the extra items you haven’t looked at in years and probably don’t really need anymore. Local charities are always looking for good items; some will pick up to save you the trouble of dropping them off. If you need some quick cash you can put your items in a garage sale. Now you are left with the treasures you want to keep.
  2. Now you will need to begin collecting packing supplies if you plan to pack yourself, or partially pack. Decide how much packing you will do yourself. You should inform the mover of any items that you want them to pack. Generally you can get everything you need at a moving supply company. The materials you get from a supply company are designed to provide the best protection for your belongings. Often times, irregular sized or used boxes are not sturdy enough to provide the best protection to items inside.
  3. Have a layout or homemade blue print of your new home marked off where you wish to place things, especially furniture, to avoid stress when you arrive with the movers. Boxes marked for each room.
  4. Make the travel plans for your family and any special accommodations you might need. This might include hotel, car rental, or flights. Also make sure that any pets have up to date vaccinations, as some areas are particular about this.
  5. Put together a personal box and phone numbers you'll need when you arrive at your new place. This might include, cleaning supplies, disposable plates and cups, light tools, snacks, bathroom items, trash bags, emergency numbers, hospitals, and places that deliver close to your new home. Be sure to include prescriptions, vaccination records, medical and dental records and eyeglass specifications for everyone who needs it.

Doing all the things mentioned here should not just make your move easy it should help make it stress free.
